  • Lisa Thomas, Jo Singer, and Traci Ferguson attended workshops at the Fletcher School over the summer to learn about the Orton-Gillingham method of reading.

  • Jean Greenwalt and Josephine Maness, both third grade teachers at Wingate Elementary, have launched The Recycling Team--a group consisting of third, fourth, and fifth grade students who are committed to making the environment and Wingate Elementary a healthier and more beautiful place to live and attend school.

  • UCPS Elementary Math Curriculum Coordinator Jeanette Cox recently collaborated with the Southwest Regional Leadership Academy, under the direction of Dr. Drew Polly, in developing the new Benchmark Standards for K-2 Math Common Core Standards.

Healthy Living Lunch Buddies photo

Healthy Living Lunch Buddies

Mrs. Tiffany Henry, the school nurse at Rocky River Elementary, has started a lunch buddy program that promotes discussions and educates students about healthy eating choices.  She loves encouraging kids to take good care of their bodies.  Students in grades 3-5 are invited to join Mrs. Henry once per week for 45 minutes.

They discuss nutrition and why certain foods are healthy and others are not.  They discuss peer pressure, healthy weights, movement and playing, rest and hygiene.  It is a great way for students to talk about what is on their minds.
